PreviStation

PreviStation was an innovative project that focused on development of pre-visualization tools for CG animation and live-action design. Utilizing specially developed animation grammar, game logic and unique real-time loop-play interactive animation modification tools, PreviStation’s goal was to assist creative professionals (such as film directors, lead animators, directors of photography, or lead animators) in finalizing their ideas before capturing them on film or screen. PreviStation was also planned to be used in education industry to teach media program students and aspiring filmmakers or animators the higher-level concepts of filmmaking and animation. Unlike other, typically desktop based pre-visualization tools, PreviStation was developed for the Sony PSP and provided a game-pad controlled interface.

PreviStation was funded by the Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Fund (approx. USD121,000), co-sponsored by Turner Broadcasting, and later internally from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University research funds (approx. USD64,000). I worked on the project proposal and co-authored the funding application in both rounds.
